Low Sugar Gut Healing Blueberry Smoothie

Most smoothies are packed with natural sugars from fruit, which is not bad, unless A) you are doing a Candida cleanse OR B) if you have blood sugar imbalances. If choosing to have a smoothie for breakfast be mindful about making sure your smoothie is a balanced meal of healthy carbs, fats & protein. The reason for this is starting the day off with a meal that is higher in sugars (even good ones) can make you hungrier quicker and can also cause you to crave more sugary foods/carbs later on in the day. Options would be to include baby spinach, green powder or other greens, one serving of fruit so 1/2 frozen banana or 1/2 cup berries, avo or nut butter and a protein powder of choice with no added sugars. This creates the perfect balanced smoothie to stabilise your blood sugar levels.

I am currently on a Candida cleanse due to an overgrowth so I created a delicious smoothie for those who need to keep their sugar intake low, help rebalance their gut microbiome (like me) & also for those who need to get things moving with Psyllium Husk as an extra boost of fibre. This smoothie is packed with blueberries which are rich in polyphenols - antioxidants that protect cells in the heart and help lower blood pressure. So, a balanced, delicious & nutritious breakfast smoothie for you.

 


Ingredients
(serves 1):

2 scoops protein powder of choice (I use PhytoPro Thrive Vanilla) 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbs psyllium husk
Pinch salt
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 Tbs nut butter (optional)
1/2 cup non dairy milk
2-3 ice cubes
1/3 cup spring water



Method:

Add all ingredients to a blender and blitz on high until well combined.

Pour into a glass/jar and top with desiccated coconut, banana or other fruit of choice
