Oh hello Candida!

Healing is NOT linear!

My Candida has returned, after about 2 years with it being in balance, and although I am not 100% sure what has caused it – perhaps stress, perhaps I have indulged in WAY TOO much Marmite. All I know is that my body is sending me a message (and it's coming from the gut).

For those of you who know Louise Hay, she says that health ailments manifest because of a particular emotion/situation we are experiencing. Her take on Candidiasis: feeling very scattered. Lots of frustration & anger. Demanding & untrusting in relationships. Some of this definitely resonates with me and from an emotional aspect something I need to work on.

So on to the Nutrition side of things 😊

What exactly is Candida & why can it be beneficial when kept in check?

Candida is a fungus that assists the gut with nutrient absorption and aids digestion when balanced in the body. When out of balance Candida can manifest as a yeast infection found in the mouth, gut or vagina and it can affect the skin and other areas of the body. 

Some signs you may have Candida are fatigue, bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomforts, food intolerances, “hungover” sensation, bad breath, brain fog, joint pain, craving for sugary foods, white coating on tongue, UTI, a weak immune system and a rash that usually develops in the folds of the skin – armpits, groin or under your breasts. 

So, what is the Candida Protocol:

What I recommend is the following, however I would suggest booking a consult with me prior to starting a Candida cleanse to make sure you are indeed actually suffering from Candida & that you have support on your Wellness Journey

- Eliminate foods that feed the candida eg. Grains, sugars, fruits, starches and alcohol as well as any other foods you are intolerant too. I recommend taking my Hair Strand Test to eliminate the guesswork & identify your food intolerances.

- Eat a diet rich in veggies, legumes, salads, nuts & protein

- Add in anti-microbial foods such as raw onion, garlic, peppermint, curry spices (especially asafoetida) & extra virgin olive oil

- After a few weeks you can add in gut healers & a probiotic
